Crystal Heart is a family company near Howden, East Yorkshire, raising 130 million young vegetable plants a year — lettuce, celery, pak choi, herbs, leeks and brassicas — delivered to growers from the south coast of England to Scotland.

Peat-free by 2030
We expect to be growing entirely in peat-free substrates by 2030, and we are testing what replaces peat on our own site before asking a customer to rely on it.
Roots that hold the plug together
An Ellepot is a column of growing media wrapped in fine biodegradable paper. Roots grow out through the wall instead of circling it, so the plug leaves the tray whole and there is no plastic module to strip away at planting.
